Another night away with no kids saw my husband and I staying in the Sydney CBD at the Swissotel. It is not often we stay at 5 star hotels, we generally travel with kids on a bit smaller budget. I did pick this hotel up at a very good price though, so it didn’t break the bank. Swissotel is right in the Sydney CBD, about 20 minutes drive from Sydney airport.
We found the location to be perfect for us. We had just over 24 hours in Sydney and some serious shopping to be done. The entrance to the hotel is on street level in Market Street, just 20 metres from Pitt Street Mall. You catch a lift up to the lobby and then another set of lifts take you to your room. Crossroads Bar is in the lobby area, the design gave it privacy in the large area but also managed to make it feel inviting from the outside.
For our first 5 star hotel in a number of years it ticked all the right boxes. Our room was spacious and the bathroom was huge! I have stayed in hotel rooms not much bigger than our bathroom. I often mention the cleanliness of a room in my reviews. Other rooms have been clean, the only way to describe this room and bathroom is spotless. The bath tub is huge and I couldn’t resist a soak after an afternoon of shopping.
The bed. So comfy. I often take a night or two to get used to a new bed – this bed was so comfortable I slept the whole night through. The hotel had everything you would expect from a luxury hotel. Even to umbrella’s in the cupboard you could borrow – or purchase if you wanted. At check-in they offered an upgrade to an executive room which included access to the Executive Lounge. To be honest this was all a bit confusing as the Receptionist kept saying different amounts we would have to pay, in the end we just said no. The main benefit seemed to be free food and drinks, maybe if we had been going to spend time in our hotel we would have done this, but this was mostly somewhere to rest our heads overnight.
If you are planning to spend more time in your hotel than out and about in Sydney, then the hotel has some great facilities including:
- Multiple dining options
- Day Spa
- Heated outdoor pool and Jacuzzi
- Valet car parking (fee)
- Internet access (fee)
We didn’t have time to make use of the pool – we had a good view of the pool from our room and it certainly looked inviting. You can also order food from the Pool menu – sounds great when you have the kids and they don’t want to leave the pool.
Overall we were very happy with Swissotel, the only thing that let it down for us was no free wifi. It is pretty normal to provide free wifi these days and I would expect it in a luxury hotel.
